FAQ
Where do these exchange rates come from?
Rates load live in your browser from ExchangeRate-API's free open endpoint, with Frankfurter (European Central Bank data) and the open-source fawazahmed0 currency API as automatic fallbacks. We never type rates in by hand.
What is the mid-market rate?
It's the midpoint between buy and sell prices on global currency markets. Banks, cards and exchange booths usually add a margin on top, which is why your quote differs.
How often are rates updated?
The primary source updates once a day; the page shows the exact update time next to the result.
Should I pay in local currency or my home currency abroad?
Usually local currency. Choosing your home currency at a card terminal or ATM (dynamic currency conversion) lets the merchant's bank set the rate, and it's often worse.
